forward movement

It’s official! I’m also a declared Mass Communications major! The process was about 100x easier than I thought it would be.

I like the idea of being in two majors, simply because it’s totally exercising the left and right hemispheres of the brain. It’s getting the full spectrum of my overpriced university education. But it is exciting to think that I’m going to be taking awesome psych, communications, english and whatever classes ALONG with some freakin sweet EECS classes (the latter is an utter lie).

I don’t like the idea of this because it’s reason to get all prideful and proud of myself in some sort of academic prowess or whatnot.

Hm.

AAHH! Ruby on Rails gets me so excited I could pee in my pants. Thus summer I want to give it a try. Oh, geekdom.

In further “geek news that will never come to pass”, I would like to port this blog to a stronger and better supported backend, namely WordPress or Textpattern, or if I’m excited enough, to a Rails-driven app I’d like to try building myself (nah..). If all the big boys are doing it, do as they do…

“Hey little sister
Why do you cry?
Holding your head so low,
May I ask you why?

Don’t you know that He loves you?
Don’t you know that He cares?
He will never leave you, no,
And never leave you there.

‘Cause you are perfect
You are perfectly,
Perfectly done.“
–Shawn McDonald — Perfectly Done

This song has the hook I was trying to come up with over winter break. Take a listen. Simple yet… powerfully done.

i cliked “ruby on rails” thinking it was some social justice movement or a movie or something exciting like that.…
read the first line and moved away from the page.
    all i can say is
    andrew you’re a geek.
    no doubt about that one

hey andrew, thanks for the EE help today. good luck with mass com. oh, and did you take that picture on your last post? its absolutely gorgeous.

  • anyhow

    hi andrew,
yeah, i clicked on the ROR link and could not understand a single word… just a bunch of incoherent phrases for me. go figure. –_– but yay for comm!! boo for the fact that my future dealing with comm is determined in the next week or so. or maybe it’s a yay, but that can’t be determined now. wish me luck? haha. well anyway, take care!

    COMMUNICATIONS!! hahah i’m proud.

Well, I must admit, you don’t exactly know me, but all this talk about Ruby on Rails / WordPress / Textpattern got me to comment (although, I do know of your work, from seeing the Take Up the Cross t-shirts at Homestead, haha).
But I’m digressing…Ruby on Rails is definitely bringing out the geek side of me. haha. It MAKES me want to learn AJAX finally, but I’m sure it would still overwhelm me…
And finally, to address Textpattern and WordPress. I had both systems installed on my site for a while as I was deciding where to go from MT. I ended up not really like TP’s interface (although WP can at times be a little clunky…but nothing as bad as MT). And mainly, WP seemed to give me more control.
gluck on picking between the two! =]
