Thinking about writing a Rhapsody Scrobbler

Filed under “Fun Ideas That Could Take Three Hours or Three Months”
I want to write a Rhapsody scrobbler. It’s already been done as a desktop application, but I don’t want to boot up another application while I’m playing music. I want to do it as a hosted Web service.
Does anybody want to look into this? I’m thinking the design would be simple: regularly consume the Rhapsody user’s Tracks RSS feed and plug it into AudioScrobbler via its API.

You know, I always thought it’d be cool but never thought of a way to do it.
The main issue I see with your approach is you have to fake a log-in and that seems “evil”… Good thinking though, I’ll play around with some http sniffing and see if its easy…

I was thinking of leaving that part up to the user, having them publicize the RSS feed and copy/pasting it into the app. I’d feel less slimy doing that than faking the login..

Cool idea!! The app you are referring to (from D. Atlanski) is bulky and unstable. I was using Yahoo Service before and there was an awesome plugin that worked in conjuncture with last.fm app. However since Yahoo and Rhapsody merged, I am struggling to find a decent scrobbler. I can test yours out when you will have it ready

I forgot to update this, but we were the ones that wrote Scrhapler (http://scrobbler.porkbuns.net)! Have you given it a shot? Just curious what your experience was with it.

Hey — were you involved with rhapsody-scrobbler.appspot.com? If so, curious about how its scrobbling tracks offset 8 hours in the past.
Also, would be amazing if it authenticated to last.fm using OAuth…
I guess I could clone the project and try to build it myself, but I’m not much (any) of a coder.
Thanks

Hey Josh,
I’ve passed your suggestion off to Hsiu-Fan, who is the creator of the App Engine app. You could reach him via the Project Page (http://code.google.com/p/rhapsody-scrobbler/) and I have it on good word from him that he’s working on the timezone issue
